Tanzania Travel – Frequently Asked Questions

(F.A.Q)

1. Where is Tanzania located?

Tanzania is a country in East Africa, bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south. To the east, it’s lined by the beautiful Indian Ocean coast. It’s home to iconic destinations like Mount Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, Zanzibar, and Ngorongoro Crater.

2. What is the best time to visit Tanzania?

The best time depends on what you want to do:

  • Safari (June to October): Dry season – best for wildlife spotting.

  • Climbing Kilimanjaro (January–March or June–October): Clear skies and good conditions.

  • Zanzibar beach holiday: Warm year-round, but best between June to October or December to February.

  • Wildebeest Migration: Peak months are June to September in Serengeti.

3. Do I need a visa to enter Tanzania?

Yes, most travelers need a visa. You can:

  • Apply online (eVisa) before arrival at immigration.go.tz.

  • Or get a visa on arrival at major airports (e.g., Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam) or land borders.

Tourist visas are typically valid for 90 days.

4. What type of vehicles are used for safaris and tours?

We use customized 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers, built for comfort and off-road driving. Features include:

  • Pop-up roof for better wildlife viewing.

  • Spacious interiors with window seats for all guests.

  • Charging outlets for phones/cameras.

  • Cooler boxes with water.

  • Some models offer Wi-Fi, fridges, or air conditioning.

For airport transfers or city travel, we also use:

  • Private vans or Toyota Alphards

  • Coaster buses for large groups

  • Motorcycles (boda boda) for local errands (not recommended for tourists)

  • Taxis and Uber/Bolt in major cities like Arusha and Dar es Salaam.

5. What is the main airport in Tanzania?

There are several international airports:

  • Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) – In Zanzibar.

Domestic flights between cities and parks are common, and we book internal flights as needed.

Safari Clothing & Packing Guide

What to Wear and Bring on Your Safari Adventure

At Royal Climb and Safaris, we believe that the right preparation enhances your overall safari experience. Whether you’re exploring the vast plains of the Serengeti or descending into the Ngorongoro Crater, wearing the right clothing and bringing the right essentials will ensure comfort, safety, and enjoyment throughout your journey.

What to Wear on Safari

Safari clothing should be comfortable, lightweight, and suited to the African bush. Neutral tones like khaki, olive, and beige are ideal for blending into the natural surroundings and keeping cool.

Recommended Clothing:

  • Neutral-colored, breathable shirts (short and long-sleeved): For sun protection and cooler mornings.

  • Lightweight trousers or safari pants: Comfortable for long drives and walking safaris.

  • A warm fleece or jacket: Early mornings and evenings can be chilly, especially in highland areas.

  • A wide-brimmed hat or cap: Protects from sun exposure during mid-day drives.

  • Comfortable closed shoes: Walking shoes or lightweight boots for short walks and around camp.

  • Sandals or flip-flops: Ideal for relaxing at your lodge or camp.

  • Swimwear: Some lodges have swimming pools or heated plunge pools.

Note: Avoid bright colors (such as red, white, or blue) and camouflage clothing, as they can attract insects or are restricted in some parks.

What to Pack

In addition to appropriate clothing, here’s a list of essential items to bring for a smooth and comfortable safari experience:

Safari Essentials:

  • Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)

  • Insect repellent (preferably with DEET)

  • Sunglasses with UV protection

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Binoculars for game viewing

  • Camera with spare batteries/memory cards

  • Personal toiletries & medications

  • Travel-size first aid kit

  • Daypack for carrying daily essentials during game drives

  • Power bank and travel adaptor (Tanzania uses Type D & G plugs)

Tip: Layering is key—temperatures can shift dramatically from chilly mornings to warm afternoons.

 Laundry and Cleaning

Most safari lodges and camps offer daily laundry service, allowing you to pack light and still have fresh clothes throughout your stay.
